Hail friends, and well met! Welcome to Space Men and Space Mer alike, though this place was built for elfs. What makes a space elf, you might ask? I offer myself as a humble example. My real name is unimportant; I have chose this moniker so that others may look upon me and know what it means to be a an Space-Elfin Edenite.
So welcome, welcome, a thousand times welcome. Pull up a space chair, sip a space elf space wine, and feel free to "let loose" and "kick back" and whatever other sayings the space men say to mean simply "have a good time". |

But you, you, Anabella... for a moment I thought that you were also an elf. It was not until you brushed the hair away from your face (for the merest of moments) that my heart was broken.
Perhaps you have some elfin heritage? Perhaps you are drawn to elfin cultural practices, even subconsciously. No matter. You, too, get the finest wine of my kin. |

Not a stupid question; not a stupid question at all; in fact, it is one of the defining aspects of the elfs. I myself do not know, nor will I bore you with the multitude of theories, but they run about as crazy-to-mundane as you'd expect (jove offshoot, wormhole mutants, regular mutants, confused spacemen, etc). |

Hmm. There is really nothing to "get", and certainly no long term machinations of the sort to which Mr. Egivand so cleverly alluded (he's so very clever, clever, clever). The space elfs of New Eden are a scattered and rare people*; this is merely a place for elfs, elf-enthusiasts, and none-of-the-aboves to meet and be merry.
* As evidenced by dear Ms Otsito's reaction, for one!
But I forget my manners! Space wine for all! |

When you're a space elf you're naturally inclined towards secrecy. I'm not quite sure what you mean by "group"... space elfs? We are not nearly organized enough to have group goals (other than the aforementioned frolicking and merryment). I was expecting more space elfs to stop by, or maybe just hoping that they would. Are we truly becoming extinct? Have our space elf bloodlines diluted into the general populace? I am not opposed to these things, of course, because such are the ways of space life, but I cannot help but feel a certain sense of loss.
Even the somewhat-elfish have been rare, far more rare than I thought. Anabella (almost) and Jinari (less so) are the only ones that somewhat qualify, that might have had some space elf blood in their distant space family space tree.
With all of this in mind, I suppose I shall expound on the criteria of space elfishness.
1) Sight of the Elfs. Elfs are clear of eye, unhindered of vision. We can "see" far into future times, and have not yet lost sight of the ancient past. The vast swatches of space are no barrier to our comprehension. Sometimes rejected by those who cannot handle the truthsight.
2) Forest of the Elfs. Every one of the space elfs carries a bit of the magical, mystical, exotic space forests with them. Though this is not a sure thing; space trees can be space-felled, after all. Can also be hidden by those ashamed of their elfselfs.
3) Artistry of the Elfs. Every elf is a canvas, and every elf clan holds a collective brush. The poetries of generations past, present, and yet to come are traced upon our very elf selfs. May be missing from elfs divorced from their culture.
So there, gentle guests. I have shared with you some deep elfin secrets. If I am alone as a space elf I suppose it does not even matter any more, breaking such a taboo. The other signifiers of elfinhood are secondary: litheness of frame, appreciation of space elf space wine, and so forth. These are not at all limited to elftypes.
Here. Wine. Wine for all. |

Very, very interesting. I'm inclined to wonder at the depth of connection between the peoples. How exactly do the physical properties of one become the metaphysics of another? The propagation of elfpaint ("tattoos" as you call them) across many cultures certainly suggests that the spacemen appreciated us enough to ape our cultural practices, even if they make a sad mockery of our beautiful art (looking at you, Caldari). Even the obsession with forests, and bringing your own terrestrial forests into space to copy elfs' actual space forests... hmmm.
I'm inclined to wonder how much is blood, and how much is rightful worship. The similarities in form suggest the former, though appreciation of the best things (and all of the points above) could be the latter. Something to think on (and drink to), for sure. |

Karynn Denton wrote:But other than that, I don't think I would make a very good elf. How about Lasairiona here? She looks a little elfish, no?
Let us apply the criteria to Lasairiona and see:
1) Sight Of The Elfs. If Lasairiona is blessed with elfsight, she chooses to hide it. It is trivial to do so in this day and age, of course, but why?
2) Forest Of The Elfs. The most readily apparent in most cases, and in this case, the most elfish. Lasairiona either has elfcestors who frolicked betwixt the elfin space trees and carried them with them when they left, or is imitating those who did (which is, again, trivial).
3) Artistry Of The Elfs. None apparent. This does not preclude it actually existing, of course, but why have stories if you aren't going to tell them?
Miscellany: She's rather... voluptuous... for a elf.
Conclusion: Probably not a elf.
As for you, Karynn, it appears that your clan has many stories to tell. Whether they are elfin stories, I do not know. So much has been lost to the space sands of spacetime. |

According to the Scriptures the Amarr adhere to, they are Gods Chosen. From this follows that either all Amarr are Space-Elfs (else they wouldn't be the Chosen), or God isn't a space-Elf. By lack of enthousiasm from the Amarr delegation in this discussion, I have to conclude that the Amarr God is no Space-Elf.

Silly me; here I thought the IGS was some sort of progressive forum for the development of all peoples and races, yet now we have this blasphemer talking some serious smack about elven culture and my line of blood.
Just because you don't have pointed ears doesn't make you superior to us, space elf. I, due to blood line and breeding issues, have no genetic key that unlocks them for me, yet you claim to be ultimately better than any elven individual for this purpose. Why do you aim to make us the villain? Our conflicts and our troubles are aged and timeless yet lost to the vast canvas of reality but you still choose to utilize our acts far gone to justify your foul behavior.
Our cultures share so many similarities that in insulting ours, you insult your own. I find it appalling you didn't expect your other spiritual half, race wise, to find a thread like this. You are a bigot and a liar.
How dare you tarnish space elves so.
As you have invoked the sacred spirit of IGS, I will indeed engage with you.
The reason we do our best not to speak of you is because space elves, to a rule, have terrible fashion sense. Our efforts to teach you how to dress have repeatedly failed, and we can only take so much heartbreak. I mean, look at you, just look at yourself: mismatched brown-on-brown, tucked in shirt, no belt with those boots. *hurk* It became easier to distance ourselfs as a civilization than to keep bashing our heads against the same old space wall.
I didn't expect any space elves to read this thread because if I looked like average space elves looked, I would be hiding in embarrassment. Unfortunately, it seems I overestimated space elves' capacity for shame.
But you are here, elven hybrid, and I guess I'll hold myself to my statement that all are welcome. Have some wine, but please, for the love of all that is good and decent and un-ugly, drink it in the back corner. I'll turn the lights down a bit for everyone else's sake.

Excuse me, roundears? Brown-on-brown? Do you not know the difference between umber and tan? Did you even study, in the slightest, any one of the fashion sciences? You don't seem to have even considered the possibilities of color theory as you're wearing a uniform black outfit, looking more like a map pencil than any semblance of fashion like a true charlatan. But outside of that (and outside of the fact CONCORD made me unzip my jacket for my portrait photo), your tone is disrespectful at best when I approached you only showing disappointment. It is clear, elf, that your intent is malicious towards those who approach you peacefully and formally. You, like many others, have naught to concede but your bigotry toward another race no matter how similar due to preconceived prejudice that only shadows your visions of the future. I think you'll find that there are several individuals who find my appearance quite pleasing and would be dismayed if I placed myself as far away from everyone else as possible.
My elf heart laments your tragic state, tied, as you are, to "theory" and "science", bereft of feeling and magic. I'm doing my best to accommodate you, yet you respond to my space olive space branch with belligerence.
I do not at all doubt that there are those who appreciate your "sense", sorry, "science" of "aesthetics". I would humbly request you seek their company. |

Since you guys can't handle the realness here, I was accommodating. Ah, yes, yes, I remember these tales. An ancient evil, sleeping in the deepest and darkest bottoms of the sea. It was more ancient than humans themselves, and nobody new when it was appeared, there were just legends of its existence. The ancient language it speaks is not for human tongues and minds. And they are so terrifying that just looking at them will cause men to lose their minds and become insane. So, yea. Sea monsters. With tentacles.

If Space Dwarfs exist then do they have the same grudge against you as those in mythology do against elven kind?
IN ORDER:
Lack of fashion sense, and absolutely no sense of humor about it. As to the first part of the question: they're truly truly truly beyond help. As to the second: ew, no, ew. The context of this question can only lead me to conclude that "logical" means something entirely different to spacemans than to elfs.
I'd tell you not to be silly with regards to so-called "Space Dwarfs", but then that wouldn't be very much fun now, would it? If you find any "space dwarfs" in your space journeys, please do send them this way!

"Space Dwarf" has to be a contradiction, because Dwarfs or of the (and close to) the ground, but that in itself is an intriguing thought.
Perhaps Space Dwarfs are those that have found themselfs on an asteroid?
